RAN and the folks at RAN Toronto have been working super hard over most of 2009 to put pressure on RBC to respect Indigenous Rights and stop financing the Alberta Tar Sands! So we are so excited to see the campaign written about in Maclean’s Magazine ( a popular Canadian news magazine)! This is a huge step in spreading awareness and lighting the fire, and despite some of claims made about the numbers apparently disputed by RBC it is a great article and worth a read… so read it!
A Hostile Climate – A radical activist group targets RBC. This time it’s personal.
My personal favourite quote is the following:
Nixon criticized the group for using “extremely personal and objectionable tactics” and said the bank would not move on demands to get prior consent from First Nations groups as a precondition to oil sands financing.
Well Mr. Nixon, do you know what I find “objectionable”? RBC’s financing of the Alberta Tar Sands as well as your company’s complete disregard for the rights of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples!
