Protesters call on top tar sands financier to protect Indigenous rights and climate! On March 3rd, more than 170 people gathered outside the RBC Annual General Shareholder Meeting in Toronto to protest the bank’s leading role in funding the contentious Alberta tar sands. People concerned with the impact of tar sands projects on First Nations, water quality and the climate came from every corner of Canada to ensure that the bank heard the message: ‘stop bankrolling the tar sands.’ Outside the shareholder meeting school children, bank customers of every age, First Nations community... RAN and the folks at RAN Toronto have been working super hard over most of 2009 to put pressure on RBC to respect Indigenous Rights and stop financing the Alberta Tar Sands! So we are so excited to see the campaign written about in Maclean’s Magazine ( a popular Canadian news magazine)! This is a huge step in spreading awareness and lighting the fire, and despite some of claims made about the numbers apparently disputed by RBC it is a great article and worth a read… so read it! A Hostile Climate – A radical activist group targets RBC. This time it’s personal. My personal... (continue reading)

I absolutely had to post this video. Susan and Eriel Deranger two women from Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation speak their stories of Tar Sands destruction and speak out against one of the largest industrial projects the world has ever seen. This video speaks for itself, there is only one option we must SHUT DOWN THE TAR SANDS. VN:F [1.9.1_1087]please wait...Rating: 0.0/10 (0 votes cast)VN:F [1.9.1_1087]Rating: 0 (from 0... Some exciting things have been happening in Canada lately. A country currently most well known for it’s terrible environmental track record and complete and utter refusal to do something productive about climate change. What has been happening in Canada? DIRECT ACTION for Climate justice! All across Canada people have been coming together to organize peaceful sit-in/occupations at the offices of elected officials, tar sands financers, and the coal and tar sands industries. This is serious stuff for Canada, within the environmental movement we’re pretty low key… Well not... (continue reading)

Thursday Oct 29 2009 At 7:30 am this morning a group of activists with RAN Toronto showed up to a sustainable business conference at which Sandra Odendahl Director of Environmental Affairs for RBC was slated to speak about sustainability as a strategic business opportunity.   To their surprise “TarSandra” and her good buddy “Big Oil ” were already there, cavorting around in secret and trying to hide their lucrative and hypoactive romance from the eyes of attendees and the public who are lead to believe RBC is a sustainable and responsible company.  In reality RBC is... Rainforest Action Network Toronto activists took part in a nation-wide campaign against Royal Bank of Canada, and set up a DIY coffee shop in front of RBC at Yonge and Bloor in Toronto to protest the bank’s involvement in the tar sands. Activists served coffee and tea, providing a visual protest against the water contamination produced by the Alberta Oil Industry. Activists invited passers-by and employees of RBC to have a seat in the temporary cafe and talk with them about the tar sands and how RBC is related to this environmental catastrophe. RBC is the number one financier of the tar... (continue reading)

In the evening on October 01 2009 activists with Rainforest Action Network Toronto got dressed up to the nines to protest the grand opening of the new RBC Centre (in downtown Toronto). The Activists entered the building holding a banner, passing out flyers, and  fake company brochures about a new “green power project” to highlight RBC’s hypocritical green-washing campaign and the company’s continued financing of the Alberta Tar Sands. Two super sneaky well dressed activists managed to evade security and make it all the way up to the swanky cocktail party on the 41st... (continue reading)
