I have the hope and belief that neoclassical economics is nearing its end of its two hundred-year era. In truth, neoclassical economics has to go altogether because, as much as it breaks my heart to admit, our world is dying on our watch. Neoclassical economics is a reckless paradigm that rages to the mantra of, “living fast and dying young.” We are burning through our world’s resources and the corporate world is showing no remorse. And because neoclassical economics is completely divorced of social and environmental ramifications – instead limiting itself to value productivity above... (continue reading)

I got to hand it to Chevron; they have a genius marketing team. Not only has one of the most environmentally destructive corporations managed to come off as socially conscious, but Chevron has also managed to win over the hearts of their worldwide consumers with their heartfelt campaigns about consuming less and curbing our dependency on oil. That all sounds sweet and dandy, but I’m calling their bluff. And the hosts of RAN’s Greenwash of the Week agree too. The green-ification Chevron claims in its ads and press releases is misleading and disingenuously spins the corporation to be... (continue reading)

Chevron’s project would serve as a back up hydrogen supply and would not be used for fuel cells or for alternative energy vehicles.... (continue reading)

RAN’s ChangeChevron campaign has received massive public attention in the last month. Chevron is certainly feeling the heat from youth activists, religious groups, student groups, common interest groups, non-profits, and even Hollywood celebrities. The tens of thousands of Ecuadorians who have suffered disease, sickness, and the destruction of their homelands have found their voice in the thousands of activists who have worked so hard to propel Chevron’s social and environmental recklessness into the media spotlight. In my last post, I spoke of Emergildo’s visit to John Watson’s home... (continue reading)

Indigenous Ecuadorean leader Emergildo Criollo travels from Amazon rainforest to California to deliver 325,000+ letters urging Chevron’s new CEO John Watson to clean up the oil giant’s toxic legacy. Photo by Jonathan McIntosh. On March 2nd, Emergildo Criollo, president of the Ecuadorian Cofan people, delivered 325,000 petitions from over 150 countries in support of his appeal to Chevron to clean up the toxic mess they had left in the Amazon over three decades ago.  He was met by Chevron’s  Public Relations Clean-Up Crew, who seemed more concerned with cleaning up Chevron’s image...
