Profile

I grew up in the mountains of upstate New York. I've been involved in environmentalism my whole life. Today I'm 24 and live in Philadelphia, where I organize with Rising Tide North America to combat climate change. I believe that stopping the destruction of the natural world is intrinsically linked to ending patriarchy, white supremacy, capitalism, ableism, and other -isms. I identify as an eco-feminist and love to talk and write about power and oppression. I like my blog posts to be thought-provoking and even controversial.

I was speaking recently with a college student who was saying that she didn’t think she would continue to participate in her school’s environmental club next year. I know environmental issues were important to her, so I asked why. She told me couldn’t really explain, but it felt like an ineffective use of her time. I told her I thought I knew what she meant. When I was in college at Drew University, I was part of DEAL, or, the Drew Environmental Action League. Except, we weren’t very heavy on the action part. During the four years I was in DEAL, we spent a lot of time... (continue reading)

Victory for Philly Activists at EPA Rally

Yesterday, a group of 40 concerned community members members rallied outside the Region 3 EPA building on Arch St in Philadelphia, where they demanded that the Agency stop approving new permits for mountaintop removal (MTR) mining. Philly’s Region 3 office reviews MTR permits in Virginia and West Virginia. The crowd chanted “Ending MTR, who has the say? Region 3 of the EPA!”, while myself and fellow Rising Tide activist Josh Yoder attempted to enter the building with a letter for senior Region 3 Administrator Shawn Garvin. We were prepared to risk arrest (apparently entering... (continue reading)
