With the BP crisis as their impetus, the ‘Bayou Healers’ aim to publicize environmental concerns and strengthen a weakened tribal identity Crossposted from solveclimate.com by Jacoba Charles – Aug 9th, 2010 GOLDEN MEADOWS, LA—The twisted silhouettes of leafless trees dot the marsh around the homeland of southern Louisiana’s Houma tribe. Telephone poles list sideways in the water that laps at the edges of many roads. It wasn’t always this way. These changes to the landscape serve as stark symbols of the myriad social and environmental problems facing... (continue reading)

Chevron is up for a huge award this month and we need your votes (VOTE HERE)  to help them win this much-deserved award. Each year ten corporations are (dis)honored by being named as finalists in the “Corporate Hall of Shame”.  This year Corporate Accountability International has deemed Chevron worthy of their final list because of the company’s toxic legacy of pollution in the Ecuadorean rainforest. It will surely be a close race as Chevron is up against some stiff competition: Monsanto – “for mass-producing cancer causing chemicals, aggressively running small farms out of... (continue reading)

I got to hand it to Chevron; they have a genius marketing team. Not only has one of the most environmentally destructive corporations managed to come off as socially conscious, but Chevron has also managed to win over the hearts of their worldwide consumers with their heartfelt campaigns about consuming less and curbing our dependency on oil. That all sounds sweet and dandy, but I’m calling their bluff. And the hosts of RAN’s Greenwash of the Week agree too. The green-ification Chevron claims in its ads and press releases is misleading and disingenuously spins the corporation to be... (continue reading)

My first campaign action on Fossil Fool’s Day

The Bay Area is my home. I grew up in the South Bay. Went to college in the East Bay, and currently live with my amazing roommates in San Francisco. And, while I haven’t always been an activist (in fact, I’m pretty  new on this turf), I have always loved the places I called home. So when I heard about Chevron’s plans to build a 21.3 mile long hydrogen pipeline between the five cities of the Contra Costa County, I immediately investigated the situation. Chevron’s project would serve as a back up hydrogen supply and would not be used for fuel cells or for alternative energy vehicles.... (continue reading)
