Protesters call on top tar sands financier to protect Indigenous rights and climate! On March 3rd, more than 170 people gathered outside the RBC Annual General Shareholder Meeting in Toronto to protest the bank’s leading role in funding the contentious Alberta tar sands. RAN and the folks at RAN Toronto have been working super hard over most of 2009 to put pressure on RBC to respect Indigenous Rights and stop financing the Alberta Tar Sands! So we are so excited to see the campaign written about in Maclean’s Magazine ( a popular Canadian news magazine)! This is a huge step in spreading awareness and lighting the fire, and despite some of claims made about the numbers apparently disputed by RBC it is a great article and worth a read… so read it! Hey everyone!  It’s a pleasure to start writing to all of you.  I was a youth delegate at the COP 15 United Nations Climate Conference this December.  It was quite the experience, and I’m more than happy to share some of those moments with you.  As a Canadian, it was truly interesting to see how our image has changed in the eyes of the international community because of our inaction on climate change. On Wednesday Dec 16th the 8th in a series of sit-ins targeting elected officials, coal and tar sands financiers and industries took place at the Calgary office of Prime Minister Stephen Harper! The Group called for his resignation due to his failure to represent the will of the Canadian people in Copenhagen!
